Bio

United State Army Captain, James “Jamie” Joyner served 10 years on active duty. The leadership experience that Jamie gained during military service made easy his transition to a supervisory position at UVA. His passion for service is evident in how he executes his role as a Zone Manager and how he envisions the improved utilization of military veteran’s knowledge and skills, particularly in the area of building trades, at the University.

Jamie says military service instilled strong values and leadership qualities that he leverages every day. As a young officer, he was responsible for many soldiers and equipment which translates well to his current role at the University. He is able to effectively prioritize ever-changing daily tasks while honoring deadlines of long term projects. As a manager, Jamie is acutely aware of “needs and the people attached to them,” which he attributes the selflessness he refined while serving in the Army. Jamie approaches challenges with a “cool head” and can relate to different perspectives due to his experience working with people from various cultures/backgrounds during his military service.
