UVA Mil Vet’s History
In the Fall of 2013, the Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights (EOCR) at the University of Virginia (UVA) sponsored a Veterans Day celebration to honor military veterans on Grounds. From this initial networking event a group of veterans volunteered to form a leadership advisory group that would organize a long term support and networking group on Grounds for all UVA military service veterans. The University of Virginia Military Veterans Community, otherwise known as UVA Mil Vets, was established with members from a significant cross-section of Academic and Medical Center faculty and staff. UVA Mil Vets is currently working to better understand the needs of veterans on Grounds and engaging in membership recruitment. If you would like to participate in UVA Mil Vets email us at UVA Mil Vets.
Mission
The primary purposes of the UVa Military Veterans Community group are to provide networking opportunities, education and informational resources, support and community building, as well as provide an opportunity to serve as an advocate for the veteran community with University leadership as necessary.
UVa Mil Vets achieves this mission by annually hosting networking events on Grounds, identifying and communicating community resources, and through online discussion forums.
