Bio

Greg Bugg is a United States Navy veteran, Electrician’s Mate, Third Class. He has four years of active duty service and two years of service in the Navy Reserves. He attributes his extensive career at UVA to the lessons he learned while in the military. While there are differences between civilian and military work life, Greg identifies the similarities and capitalizes by applying his military knowledge and abilities to his current role.

Resilience, adaptability, and determination are lessons in leadership that Greg Bugg gained during military service which he applies to his employment at UVA. He says that military service taught him how to be patient and to respect the “chain of command”, which is especially valuable when faced with beauraucratic processes. Greg also credits his experiences during service for his ability to relate to others and solve problems. While serving, he was required to work closely with people from various backgrounds, often in less than ideal conditions, which contributes to his appreciation of diversity and his commitment to teamwork. He believes that military veteran status is as distinctive as gender and racial identity statuses because of the experiences service members have that are unique to military service.
